Blockchain for Sustainability
We are on a mission to connect the dots on food production- processing-and reaching to the customers- value chain. The entire ecosystem can be improved with the support of upcoming block chain kind of technologies. It can reduce inefficient and malpractices related to food safety, getting farmers the desired pay, and reduce the transaction time.
“Block chain creates a secure and transparent ledger system that’s available to all parties within a supply chain including producers, retailers, logistics providers, and regulators. This shared ledger compiles a comprehensive record of each asset, all transactions in its history, and its current ownership. Each change to the ledger must be verified by all parties, which gives the process trustworthiness and transparency. Changes can be made manually or automatically by adhering to a set procedure that was unanimously pre-approved during the design of the technology”.
Drones & AI for Agriculture
Drones are very effective in collecting data, fertigation applications, pest control etc. As the world is moving towards nano-bio technologies, foliar kind of applications, precision methods are very important. Cost effective drones are available and currently used in farms for the improvement of the efficiency.
Apart from these Drones have a unique advantage that it can provide live data using a wide range of sensors on in-depth analysis of crop health and productivity improvement. Drones are also used for capturing high quality, accurate images even in cloudy days covering hundreds of acres in limited time frame. By using Artificial Intelligence Farmers will be benefited from many on-farm applications and for the development of improved seeds, crop protection, and fertility products etc.
Food Processing & Selling
India is witnessing a revolution in the food processing sector. There are numerous incentives for establishing new processing units, setting up the supply chains etc. We also approach this challenge in a very different but unique way by empowering the small farmers, helping him to brand his product and sell it in his local market. Aligning with the new street vending policies of the Govt, we are encouraging local govts to set up designer shops, electric vehicle shops etc to give space to local farmers and produces to sell their products.
Many such shops both mobile & static are established for selling the products. Lot of public spaces, Govt offices locations etc are also used for this. This is an Alterneit chain of small shops owned by communities to bring their products and sell it in the local community itself.
Research to Edible Foods
Yet another activity close to our heart is the research on the perennial foods especially plants and vegetables. It is estimated that 60 % of the world food is coming from 5 animals and 12 plants. There is an interesting question, What we people we were eating 200 years back?. It is not the cabbages, cauliflowers or broccolis. But there are other plants that we were using years back.
One group with us is trying to find out and trace back what we people were eating 200 years back. Interestingly we could find out data that Kerala had more than 3000 edible plants and we could unearth 30 of them and started promoting it. These plants are the rich resources for human beings and other animals. We believe Tapioca, poultry, plants of this nature will contribute largely to the world’s food security challenge. It’s a great mission with a great cause.
